As my summer internship has come to an end, I am beyond happy that I made the connections I have and gained this experience. During my last few weeks, I did some easier work since most of the important stuff and events are now over. Like I said in my last blog, I have been helping my boss a lot with her other company which is the wedding one and helping her think of slogans and searching for new brides in the area that we could contact to get our services at the plastic surgery company. I did some last minute filing for her that she has not been able to get to since she has been very busy herself. A few weeks ago, there was a storm in New Jersey and the company had lost power for the entire week so they had no power support which meant no computers or anything. That was a very easy week for me considering most of what I do is done on the computer for them so I did manual work for them by hand. All in all this was a great internship experience and I can only help that this opportunity will have helped me in the long run!

Blog post 4
Now that all of our major events are over, there haven’t
been many large projects to take on. My bosses have been giving me smaller projects
to check off the list. Within the area, which is Harrisburg, there are plenty
of hotels and motels which the hospital sets up deals for the families of
guests who may be out of town. I went down the list to call each hotel and
update which ones we planned on holding our deals with and if any changes were to
be made. Since Holy Spirit hospital is a Christian establishment we run ads
through local Catholic bulletins. I contacted our preferred publications office
to set up a list of several churches to run our ads in as well as the format
and sizing. Next on my to-do list was to update a pile of contact lists. This
list includes marketers, news stations, public relations specialists and more.
Every phone call made was to double check on phone numbers, fax numbers,
company address, and the preferred spokesperson. Along with updating lists, I’m
still putting together more public informational sessions. We ran surveys
asking people what they would like to see in the future as far as classes
we may provide. Many requests came in for topics such as weight loss, information
on arthritis, healthy meal ideas, and stress control; we will be working on
putting new classes together. We are still doing film segments with CBS; the
last one I went along to film was for a Pet of the Week segment. We filmed a Pomeranian
named Gizmo who works as a therapy dog in the hospital. Gizmo makes his rounds
on the recovery floor and children’s ward. Gizmo also travels to any floor or
room who requests a fuzzy friend. And lastly, I’ve been counting out and
sending post cards and flyers to all of our Spirit of Women members for
different informational health classes and other events. I’m sad to be nearing
the end of my internship; I’ve grown so close to everyone in the office, but I’m
so thankful for all the experience that I’ve gained this summer.

The past month at my internship has been starting to slow down. Since their big event is over, we are still sending out thank you cards to those who came to it which is the project that I have been working on. Going through the list of everyone who was there, I wrote out a thank you card to each one individually and we sent out packets to everyone. I have a good idea of how everything works in the office and its starting to feel like this is the real deal of being my job (even though it isn't). My boss also has a wedding company on the side of working at the plastic surgery company. She blends the two together because she tries to bring in the brides to get either facials, makeup or even massages done at the surgery company. I have been helping her out with that as well, helping to find new brides and then creating a template with a catchy slogan to try and get her brides to come in. It really helped to put my creativeness in and be able to be a big help to her. Being so caught up at the office, she has been putting off doing more of her wedding company, so having me there has been a big help to her because she can finally start to do the things that she has been putting off for weeks. Everyone in the office is very considerate and helpful with me and I don't ever want this internship to end, but I can only imagine the positive outcomes I could get from having this awesome experience.

This past month in the office has been a little slower now
that the planning for the events that occurred in the beginning of my
internship is over. I’ve tagged along for a few more CBS Doc Talk filming. The
most recent one I was able to sit in on discussed Lyme disease and the Zika
virus, which are both major risks in the summer time and especially the Zika
virus since it’s new and is a growing health concern. The tapings are being
lined up to be aired; the Lyme disease and Zika episode will be aired relatively
soon since they relate closely to summer time. We’ve also been looking at
lectures and informational sessions to provide to the public about Summer
Safety and Back to School. Some of the sessions we’ve been working on include
safe sun, back to school check-ups, and dangers of concussions. Also, Megan is
the head of the program, Spirit of Women at Holy Spirit Hospital, which is a
national organization promoting women’s health. Her and I have been looking
into one of the programs being offered called “Love Your Selfie” which is aimed
towards young girls and focuses on building strong self-confidence and positive
body images. Megan and I both agree that a program like this is very important
since having a positive body image in 2016 is a little difficult with the media’s
skewed views on women and their bodies. And lastly, we recently held a small dinner
event which was to commend the hospital’s recent achievements and go over some
future goals. I did not attend this event but I helped to set the room up. I
also was in charge of getting over 100 balloons, which I had to pick up and
transport to the location on a super windy day. I look forward to read everyone’s
updates!

Greetings from China
I recently returned from Beijing, China, where I was invited guest for the Communication University of China. I was one of 19 professors from the United States selected for this honor. While there, I spoke about the impact of social media on the public relations practice. I climbed the Great Wall of China, visited Tianenmen Square and met a Bloomsburg alumna (Lisa Keranen) who was also one of the distinguished professors presenting at the University. Still recovering from jet lag! Keep those blog entries coming! Dr. Byrum

Lauren and Nate's Wedding
I started blogging for the weddings I have been planning. Blogging about each wedding is a great tool for the marketing and advertising aspect of a wedding planning company. This blog was for Lauren and Nate. The reception had a gorgeous yet sophisticated theme, and it was a blast!

Lauren and Nate
Lauren first noticed Nate’s crystal blue eyes from across one of their favorite bars at the shore. Although Lauren was already in college and Nate was still in high school, that didn’t stop Nate from sweeping Lauren off her feet. They slow danced while the loud club music played and the rest was history.
Nate proposed on the beach in Sardinia, Italy during a beautiful sunset; giving Lauren the surprise of a life time.
Lauren walked down the aisle in an off premise location wearing a gorgeous beaded Chantilly laced mermaid gown, accented with a deep v-neckline, and laced straps. She carried a stunning bouquet of calla lilies, amaryllis, orchids, and peonies with accents of yellow wrapped in a satin bow. Lauren and Nate said their “I do’s” and headed to One Atlantic for an unforgettable night.
Guests were greeted off the Atlantic City Tram Service to an elegant cocktail hour with an open bar and the bride and grooms signature Cocktails: Lauren’s lemonade and Woo’s Whiskey. Our standard collection of Hors d’ oeuvres was served butler style including: an artisanal cheese, pasta, and crudité display.
The Atlantic ballroom opened and radiated a gorgeous yet sophisticated look with a color pallet of black and white with pops of Champaign, accenting our starry night display. Table’s center pieces mimicked the flower in Lauren's bouquet. Guests enjoyed a classic 3- course- meal picked out by Lauren and Nate.
After dinner guests danced the night away to the Go Go Gajet band provided by Midnight sun, and the photo booth was a hit! They ended the night with coffee and delicious butler passed deserts such as: mini milk shakes, fun-fetti cake pops, chocolate covered strawberry’s, and cotton candy. It truly was an unforgettable night

Second Blog Post
Since the first blog post, I am still doing about the same things I have been. Because I have been there for about a month now, they are starting to let me do things on my own and pretend as if I am an employee with them. I am still planning large events with my boss and calling around places to tell them more about our company and what we can offer. Planning these events are very helpful because it is a lot of hands on work and it feels good to know that they can have that trust in me to take things on and complete various tasks successfully. I help my boss run reports on other employees, call vendors and set things about between them and us. Last weekend we actually had a dinner with another company that we joined with and they invited some of the staff to be at the kickoff dinner. I was honored that they let me attend with them being as I am just their intern. There turned out to be a couple hundred people that showed up and we even got to connect with them and help expand the company even more! I am more than happy that I have this opportunity this summer and I can't wait to finish off with them!
