The past month at my internship has been starting to slow down. Since their big event is over, we are still sending out thank you cards to those who came to it which is the project that I have been working on. Going through the list of everyone who was there, I wrote out a thank you card to each one individually and we sent out packets to everyone. I have a good idea of how everything works in the office and its starting to feel like this is the real deal of being my job (even though it isn't). My boss also has a wedding company on the side of working at the plastic surgery company. She blends the two together because she tries to bring in the brides to get either facials, makeup or even massages done at the surgery company. I have been helping her out with that as well, helping to find new brides and then creating a template with a catchy slogan to try and get her brides to come in. It really helped to put my creativeness in and be able to be a big help to her. Being so caught up at the office, she has been putting off doing more of her wedding company, so having me there has been a big help to her because she can finally start to do the things that she has been putting off for weeks. Everyone in the office is very considerate and helpful with me and I don't ever want this internship to end, but I can only imagine the positive outcomes I could get from having this awesome experience.

This past month in the office has been a little slower now
that the planning for the events that occurred in the beginning of my
internship is over. I’ve tagged along for a few more CBS Doc Talk filming. The
most recent one I was able to sit in on discussed Lyme disease and the Zika
virus, which are both major risks in the summer time and especially the Zika
virus since it’s new and is a growing health concern. The tapings are being
lined up to be aired; the Lyme disease and Zika episode will be aired relatively
soon since they relate closely to summer time. We’ve also been looking at
lectures and informational sessions to provide to the public about Summer
Safety and Back to School. Some of the sessions we’ve been working on include
safe sun, back to school check-ups, and dangers of concussions. Also, Megan is
the head of the program, Spirit of Women at Holy Spirit Hospital, which is a
national organization promoting women’s health. Her and I have been looking
into one of the programs being offered called “Love Your Selfie” which is aimed
towards young girls and focuses on building strong self-confidence and positive
body images. Megan and I both agree that a program like this is very important
since having a positive body image in 2016 is a little difficult with the media’s
skewed views on women and their bodies. And lastly, we recently held a small dinner
event which was to commend the hospital’s recent achievements and go over some
future goals. I did not attend this event but I helped to set the room up. I
also was in charge of getting over 100 balloons, which I had to pick up and
transport to the location on a super windy day. I look forward to read everyone’s
updates!

Greetings from China
I recently returned from Beijing, China, where I was invited guest for the Communication University of China. I was one of 19 professors from the United States selected for this honor. While there, I spoke about the impact of social media on the public relations practice. I climbed the Great Wall of China, visited Tianenmen Square and met a Bloomsburg alumna (Lisa Keranen) who was also one of the distinguished professors presenting at the University. Still recovering from jet lag! Keep those blog entries coming! Dr. Byrum
