As my summer internship has come to an end, I am beyond happy that I made the connections I have and gained this experience. During my last few weeks, I did some easier work since most of the important stuff and events are now over. Like I said in my last blog, I have been helping my boss a lot with her other company which is the wedding one and helping her think of slogans and searching for new brides in the area that we could contact to get our services at the plastic surgery company. I did some last minute filing for her that she has not been able to get to since she has been very busy herself. A few weeks ago, there was a storm in New Jersey and the company had lost power for the entire week so they had no power support which meant no computers or anything. That was a very easy week for me considering most of what I do is done on the computer for them so I did manual work for them by hand. All in all this was a great internship experience and I can only help that this opportunity will have helped me in the long run!

Blog post 4

Now that all of our major events are over, there haven’t been many large projects to take on. My bosses have been giving me smaller projects to check off the list. Within the area, which is Harrisburg, there are plenty of hotels and motels which the hospital sets up deals for the families of guests who may be out of town. I went down the list to call each hotel and update which ones we planned on holding our deals with and if any changes were to be made. Since Holy Spirit hospital is a Christian establishment we run ads through local Catholic bulletins. I contacted our preferred publications office to set up a list of several churches to run our ads in as well as the format and sizing. Next on my to-do list was to update a pile of contact lists. This list includes marketers, news stations, public relations specialists and more. Every phone call made was to double check on phone numbers, fax numbers, company address, and the preferred spokesperson. Along with updating lists, I’m still putting together more public informational sessions. We ran surveys asking people what they would like to see in the future as far as classes we may provide. Many requests came in for topics such as weight loss, information on arthritis, healthy meal ideas, and stress control; we will be working on putting new classes together. We are still doing film segments with CBS; the last one I went along to film was for a Pet of the Week segment. We filmed a Pomeranian named Gizmo who works as a therapy dog in the hospital. Gizmo makes his rounds on the recovery floor and children’s ward. Gizmo also travels to any floor or room who requests a fuzzy friend. And lastly, I’ve been counting out and sending post cards and flyers to all of our Spirit of Women members for different informational health classes and other events. I’m sad to be nearing the end of my internship; I’ve grown so close to everyone in the office, but I’m so thankful for all the experience that I’ve gained this summer.
